Introduction to Computer Networks and the Internet

About This Course

This course explains how the Internet and computer network work by starting from the basic concepts of computer networking and the process and functions in each layer based on OSI and TCP/IP models. It also includes the basic knowledge of IP address assignment, Dynamic Host Configuration protocol (DHCP), packet routing and its protocols, server-client model, how Domain Name System (DNS) works, and how WWW and email work, and their protocols.

This course will include the hands-on lab to help students to clearly understand concepts and how protocols in each layer of the Internet works. Student assessment will include Quiz, Homework, and Final exam.

Duration: 8 Weeks; 2 hours per Week

Target Students:
(1) Students in Bachelor degree in IT, Computer Science/Engineering, Telecommunication, Electrical Engineering and other related fields.
(2) Any person who is interested in Computer area and has fundamental knowledge in Mathematics.

 

Expected Learning Outcome

LO 1

Explain the concepts of computer networks including TCP/IP layers, Internet protocols and applications, IP addressing, routing concepts and protocols, server-client models, TCP, UDP, DNS, and DHCP.

LO 2

Identify problems related to computer networks and possible solutions of given problems concerning to basic network trouble shooting using basic network commands and IP address assignment.

To pass this course, you need scores above 60%

Requirements

Basic Mathematics such as Binary Calculation.
