 Credits:              3 (3-0-6)

Curriculum:           Master of Engineering Program in Railway Transportation System

Semester offering:    Second semester

Prerequisite:         None

Course Description:

This course concentrates on developing students’ background knowledge on climate changes-global warming-greenhouse gases, fundamental of transportation emission calculation, types of climate funding, and background knowledge on the process of tracking emission reductions are known as MRV: (Measure, Report, and Verification). With these background knowledge, students will have a clear path and right direction on developing sustainable transportation which could directly contribute to developing a regional policy framework in order to support low carbon modes of transport, energy efficiency, and user-friendly transport initiatives, and integration of transport and land use planning.

Course Learning Outcomes (CLOs)

By the end of the course, students can

CLO1 Introduction to Transport and Climate Change: is to enable students to integrate climate change mitigation into transport-related policies. The learning domain of CLO1 are:

Basics on transport and climate change

   International framework on climate change

Mitigation actions (MA) in the transport sector

CLO2 Data and Basic Approach to Calculate GHG emissions: is to enable students to evaluate different statistical systems and check if they are suitable for especially their needs in the country to quantify GHG emissions. For example: Identify data gaps and analyze data availabilities and qualities. The learning domains of CLO2 are:

   Basic Principles for GHG Calculation

   Different Calculation Approaches

   Data Management

CLO3 Assessing Impacts (or MRV) for the Transport Sector: is to enable students to specify vital elements of MRV for mitigation actions, specifically on reviewing MRV reports as well as presenting essential results to executives and decision-makers. The learning domain of CLO3 are:

Mitigation actions in the transport sector

   Define scope and boundaries (ex-ante)

   Scenarios and modeling (ex-ante)

   Data management and monitoring

Required Texts

No specific textbooks are required for the course. Students will be given the workbook which summarizes course material and discussed topics at the end of each class.
